Mohammad Forouzani (Martin Foroz) is an Iranian writer currently living in Oman as an expatriate English Language and Literature professor with a Ph.D. in English Language and Literature. His literary writings which he signs under his writer name Martin Foroz, include poems, short stories, novels, screenplays, stage plays, and critical essays. He is also a published writer in the field of language studies.
POETRY. Martin’s first collection of poems in Farsi Khasteh-tar az Zamaan (More tired than Time) appeared in the late 1990s. Later, he wrote short and long English poems that were published in literary magazines and in the form of full books. Inside Out (Olympia Publishers, UK, 2017) and Out Inside (Austin Macauley Publishers, UK, 2019) were his first English poetry collections with mostly social themes. His third collection A Louvre of Verse (Beckham Publishing House, US, 2020) consists of two sections, section one, his poems inspired by the classics of the American and English poets, and section two, short poems on themes like hope, love, displacement and exile, child and women abuse, and other social themes . Some of his short poems and one of his verse dramas “The Confessing Song of Mr. Head” in video format are available on his YouTube page. His imagist poem “To My Reader” was also performed on stage by the Iran-Germany Theater Group in Nürenberg in August 2023.
FICTION. Martin started writing short stories and memoirs during his senior school years. His short story “A Room for a descent burial of memories” appeared in 34th Parallel Magazine, Issue 80 in 2020. This was a point of departure for writing his novels the first of which The Path is currently under review for publication, and his second novel, an espionage story, is in editing stage. In the meantime, he wrote short stories in Farsi that later appeared as a collection of related narratives titled Khateraat-e Ravi (The Narrator’s Memories) published in 2022 (Forough Book, Köln).
Screenplays, stage plays, and awards. Martin is currently engaged in writing stage plays and screenplays. He has written 10-minute plays, one-act plays, full-length plays, and a feature screenplay (a spy thriller) based on his second novel. His screenplay has won the Los Angeles Film Award 2024 for the Best Feature Screenplay and is also Nominee for the Best Feature Script at the Swiss Alpenglow International Festival 2024. Two of his stage plays The Inglorious Bastard after “Downfall” and The Triangle were Bronze Winners at the WRPN.tv Screenplay Competition 2024 where his screenplay also received Honorable Mention. Martin is currently writing a fantasy-detective play on an AI (/ei-ai/) theme.
Substack opinion essays. Martin’s Backstage on Substack is a film and stageplay critique corner. He shares his scomparative opinion essays on films and stage plays in view of the themes that link the picture or stage script to the current events.
Academic publications. Martin has published articles, books, and book chapters in language studies, and his most prominent publication in the area of language and linguistics is An Illustrative Dictionary of Semantics (ILLUDS) first published in 2019 by BookVenture and then republished in 2023 by Austin Macauley, US.
